Eulogia Merle
I am an artist, illustrator and cultural activist. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and I’ve lived in Madrid for more than 20 years, where I work as an illustrator for recognized newspapers (‘El País’, from Spain and ‘La Nación’, from Argentina). In 2012, I started exploring my personal work, in coincidence with my becoming a mother, intrinsically related circumstances: raising my son, creating my home-studio and my personal work are part of the same aesthetic gesture. I conceive each work as a game, where everything happens in real time. I am interested in abstract figuration, the subtle balance where the forces of chance, the unconscious gesture and the sensitivity of the drawing dialogue. I stop at the exact point, where the viewer’s intervention is essential to complete the work, as an invitation to new starting points. My recurring topics are bonds and identity.
