30 Ceramic Sculptors 2015
The John Natsoulas Center for the Arts will hold its annual gallery-wide 30 Ceramics Sculptors exhibition in concurrence with the California for the Advancement of Ceramic Art (CCACA) Conference. The work will be on display from April 15 - May 16, 2015. This exhibition was first conceived in 1986, a collaboration between the late Robert Arneson and John Natsoulas, and continues the ceramic traditions made famous by instructors and students of the University of California, Davis Art Department and the University of California, Davis and local ceramic artists.

The annual Ceramics Festival, hosted by the John Natsoulas Center for the Arts enters into its 27th year and continues to bring the leading national and international ceramic artists to Northern California for a weekend of creative instruction and collaboration.
This year's conference will feature captivating lectures and hands-on demonstrations from celebrated artists: Patti Warashina, Irina Zayctevea, John Toki, Clayton Keyes, Chris Antemann, Beverly Mayeri, ShaleneValenzuela, Esther Shimazu, Eusebio Lozano, George Grant.
Chris Antemann and Irina Zaytceva will both be doing their first public demonstrations at the conference this year. Both Antemann and Zaytcevaexplore contemporary reimaginings of the cultural traditions of Germany and Russia, respectively, through their work. Antemann works with porcelain and creates pieces with a distinct 18th century influence in partnership with the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in Germany. Zaytcevacombines her background in book illustration and the use of fine-grained porcelain and 18k and 24k gold luster to create her rich, painterly work.
Patti Warashina, a key figure in the transformation of West Coast ceramics, joins them as another key speaker. Warashina takes a humorous approachin her explorations of such themes as politics, feminism, and the human condition.
In addition, noted artists Eusebio Lozano and George Grant will be competing against one another in The Great California Throw Off on Sunday, May 3rd at 1 p.m.
Supplementing the weekend already full of ceramics enjoyment are the 45student shows on display throughout downtown Davis. Because the downtown area is intimately small and walkable, all of the events are near-by and easy to find, letting the focus stay on the enjoyment of the art and not schlepping around town.
