Works by Gregory Kondos

June 28 – Aug 1, 2023

Gregory Kondos (1923-2021) was one of the greatest landscape painters of the Sacramento Valley region. Kondos helped create a new movement and style of California landscape painting. Through his cool clear colors, he depicted the vast Sacramento Valley and its rivers, flood plains, fields, and mountains. Kondos’ work has been greatly inuenced by Paul Cézanne, Willem De Kooning, and Paul Gauguin. He looked at the way that Cezanne painted the forms, light, and color
of Southern France, as well as the color qualities of Gauguin’ work. De Kooning’s idea of hastening the speed of the brush strokes, and not “pecking” at the canvas
helped Kondos free his paintings. rough this stylistic and technical approach, Kondos created a broad sense of space, and translated abstract expressionist ideas
into landscape painting.

Please join us at the Opening Reception on Friday July 14 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. It will feature free refreshments and live music.
