Jack Jefferson

Jack Jefferson (1920 - 2000) was an American painter , printmaker, and educator. After serving in WWII, he attended the California School of Fine Arts, along with a famous cohort of other artists utilizing the GI Bill. While there, he studied under the highly influential Clyfford Still. Jefferson was one of the twelve founders of the Metart Galleries, where he had his first solo exhibition in 1949. Shortly there after, he won the Abraham Rosenberg Fellowship, and he traveled extensively before returning to San Francisco and joining his alma mater as a faculty member in 1959. He held his post there until 1978, and he exhibited extensively during his years teaching and after. His work is represented in the permanent colleges at the Oakland Museum of California, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the San Jose Museum of Art
