Mark Bulwinkle
Mark Bulwinkle is an American graphic artist and sculptor who works primarily with steel. Born in 1946, Bulwinkle went on to receive his BFA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968, and an MFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1974. He became a welder at the Bethlehem Ship Yards after learning how to weld at the San Francisco’s John O’Connell Trade School. His welding career continued to the age of 40 when he decided to become a full-time artist.
Bulwinkle is an important figure of the West Coast Funk movement and continues to turn heads with his playful steel cut figures such as Giant Fish, from 1985 that is exhibited at the Spalding House of the Honolulu Museum of Art.
