ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
George Tchobanoglous is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, at the University of California, Davis. Photography has been a lifelong hobby and passion. He began taking photographs when he was fifteen and printing them in a makeshift darkroom in the cellar of his parent’s farmhouse in Patterson, California.
Professional and personal travels have provided George the opportunity to photograph throughout the world. The diverse photographs in this show, reflect the wonder of finding unique people, objects, and settings to photograph. Where possible, the images taken at different locations and times are juxtaposed to illustrate a commonality of ideas and vision.
He has shown previously at the John Natsoulas Gallery, the old Faculty Club on the UCD campus, the International House Davis, and the Davis Art Center. A photograph of a spiral staircase from a previous show at the John Natsoulas Gallery, is in the Crocker Museum's permanent collection. His photographs appear in his many textbooks, and in numerous articles for scientific journals and magazines.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHS
Except for few pictures, all the photographs in the show were taken with digital cameras (Canon 5DII and Fuji X-T4). The pictures were printed using Epson UltraChrome HD pigment inks with an Epson SureColor P800 ink-jet printer. The photographic papers used include Epson Exhibition Fibre, Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta, and Red River Aurora Art White. All the photographs have been treated with a UV protective coating
The photographs are framed archivally with rag matting and archival backing materials. To further protect the photos, OP 3 UV filtering acrylic
glazing is used. When mounted with OP 3 UV glazing, the pigment inks used in printing the photos have been tested to be lightfast for 150 plus years. All photographs in the show are in limited editions of 10.
