The John Natsoulas Gallery is pleased the present the newest exhibition of paintings by Jerry DeCamp – Nous Allons. This group of works, depicting scenes and landscapes from DeCamp’s long sojourns in Paris and the French Riviera, capture the essential vitality of cosmopolitan and country-side living. DeCamp utilizes his deep understanding of Old Master techniques and his training under one of the great modern masters of painting. DeCamp earned both his BA and MA at UC, Davis – first in the art department under Wayne Thiebaud and then in the department of art history to obtain his graduate degree. His work is an expert blend of the old and the new, but despite his far-flung travels, his work retains a distinctly Californian flavor. DeCamp’s approach to color continually evokes the renown works that became so notable during the Bay Area Abstract Expressionist Movement. Thiebaud’s mentorship carried that tradition through to DeCamp’s work, which shows a profound grasp on color theory also inspired by a love for Paul Cezanne and other Impressionists. Each work in this exhibition celebrates DeCamp’s love of color and traveling.
